Security was tight as we approached the Suez Canal, the artificial sea-level waterway in Egypt that connects the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea. Soldiers armed with machine guns could be seen at the top of the cliffs on both side of the road. As instructed by Akram, no pictures were allowed to be taken in this area, we were being watched.
As we approached the entrance of the tunnel under the Suez Canal, at   one of the checkpoints we were briefly stopped in which an armed guard boarded the bus and requested everyone’s passport for verification. Passport in hands, they were checked and then off we went!Read More
